KING CITY, Monterey County — October 26, 2026. The Transportation Agency for Monterey County is using community art as one way to promote safe school travel in King City. Alongside local arts partner Sol Treasures, TAMC recognized winners of a Sidewalk Art Competition connected to the city’s Safe Routes to School effort. The agency also held a community art walk October 15, an event now in the past.
Artwork can encourage attention to streets used by children, but artistic concepts alone are not traffic-control devices and do not prove an engineering project has been completed. Residents can ask TAMC which art designs have been approved for installation and how the broader route improvements will accommodate students, wheelchairs, bicycles and motorists. The project should be followed through the agency’s approved work schedules and future public notices.
