King City Aquatic Center Renovates Perimeter Fence With State Recreation Funding

KING CITY, Monterey County — October 27, 2026. A municipal recreation facility dating to 1941 is receiving another physical improvement. King City announced that its Aquatic Center Fence Renovation Project began September 15, 2026, following City Council approval and an April contract award to Big Wakoo Fencing of Atascadero.

What the project changes

The city said the work would replace and improve the facility’s perimeter fence to comply with current safety rules and improve control of the picnic area near the northern entrance. The announcement projected approximately four weeks of construction and said regular pool programming would continue. Because that projected period has passed, it does not establish whether final construction, inspection or any remaining corrections are complete on October 27.

Where the money comes from

The city links this improvement to $400,000 in state recreation funding secured in 2023 through Sen. Anna Caballero’s office. The same funding package supported renovation of tennis courts in 2024 and pool chlorinator replacement in 2026. The $400,000 is the broader funding amount; the city does not describe it in this announcement as the standalone cost of the fence contract.

Families should check current opening hours and any temporary access restrictions directly with the Recreation Office, 831-385-6748.
